Another rainy day

rain 15 °C

It's official... rainy season has come to Davis. And my shiny red raincoat can finally see the light.. oops, dark clouds of the day.

The buses are more packed then normal days because people like me who usually bike to school, choose to take the bus instead. And everywhere you go, you see hoods. Put this scenario in Malaysia/ Singapore, and you'd think that you're in some gangster ghetto. I don't think I looked the part though...haha

Buses in Davis offers free rides for UC Davis students, as long as you flash your student ID when boarding. The bus terminals are also located on campus. So it's really convenient, except for Friday nights and weekends. As the bus drivers themselves are students (seriously! Unless they have just graduated and are doing time looking for other jobs), no buses run on Friday nights and Sunday. It's off days for students mah... And on Saturdays, they have different bus routes which complicates travelling. So if you want to find your way around Davis, the best is still to get a bike =) If not, make sure you have your bus guide and student ID with you 24/7.

There are bus routes linking Davis with neighbouring towns like Woodlands, Vacaville, Winters, and the city of Sacramento. Driving to Sacramento takes usually 15 minutes, but if you want to take the bus... be sure to take along something to entertain yourself with. It sure is a loooong ride. The shorter route takes an hour! The longer route is but ten minutes extra. But hey, it's a free ride! Unless you want a speedier ride, then the train is the way to go.

Talking about buses and trains... Davis actually has a fleet... ok, a few... double deckers that are brought in all the way from London! Cool, right? In fact, the sign boards on the buses retains the originals from London. Here, they only service the route that passes my apartment. So, when I first saw it, I was really amazed! haha... it was because the sign board had all these London landmarks, like Oxford Street, Westminister etc on it, instead of landmarks in Davis! There's even a "bus conductor" that stands at the back of the bus, which also serves as the entrance / exit, holding a flag.

I'll end this post with another of my favourite things in life... food =)
